The Silver Lining to SCSNW Successful Fundraising
Rich and Wendy Hendrickson, of
A & H Hallmark Stores and A & H Home Medical, have been major supporters of
the Spinal Cord Society Northwest Chapter for over ten years. A & H own and
operate many Hallmark Stores and have a number of drug stores. They also have
a complete medical supply operation covering the greater part of Western
Washington. At these locations their staffs continually come up with
ingenious ways to raise awareness and generate funds to benefit the Spinal
Cord Society. For several years a portion of sales from "Beanie Babies" was
donated to Spinal Cord Society, followed by a drive for customer monetary
donations. Through their corporation and personal contributions, Rich, Wendy
and family continue to be the Spinal Cord Society Northwest Chapter's most
generous contributors, with a total of over $500,000.
Often there lies a story
behind such generosity. Rich and Wendy's son, Bryce, suffered a spinal cord
injury in 1995 while diving in a public swimming pool. He was sixteen and on
his high school's swim team when a team mate noticed him motionless at the
bottom of the pool. The prognosis was devastating, and for a time, Bryce's
care became the full-time responsibility of his parents. Like many similar
families the Hendrickson's investigated avenues for direction and support.
They discovered the exciting research progress the Spinal Cord Society was
making toward the cure of spinal cord injuries. They joined the "fight" and
continue to be strong supporters of SCS.
The Henrickson family has
again pledged their support to SCS in 2006. As long as we have such an
astounding group of supporters, we are able to continue to push for research
to cure spinal cord injury.
A special thanks to everyone
involved with A & H. You all play a valuable roll toward our goal! Cure, Not
Care!
